I'm Gonna Put What? On My Face!

This has been a crazy week at work and in my personal life, but I have managed to get a post out on Monday (OK, I cheated, I did that post on Saturday). I found some downtime today so I wanted to share with you something I've been doing and that I have found.

First I was web surfing the other day and I found out about this:

$8.99 CVS
Apparently it can take the place of a make-up primer. Now I know the name is throwing you off, but its not for what other product the name is associated with. Its an antichaffing gel, great stuff for us gals who's inner thighs rub together like nobody's business. It has the same stuff if not more that other make-up primers have; Dimethicone. Dimethicone creates a nice base for foundations and other make-up products need to stay on all day and not become a big greasy mess at the end of the day.

I am currently wearing it now and I applied a light weight foundation on top and it is almost the end of my day and not one part of my face feels greasy at all ( usually by this time it does) I work in a harsh environment that has ruined my skin: concrete dust, sand, exhaust fumes and oil. I am hoping this works to keep all that toxicity out of my pores so I can get back a nice complexion. I am trying this product out for the next two weeks and I will give a review at the end. So far I love it.

So buy a bottle and try it out for your face or put it for its actual use, I'm thinking it could be used on feet to stop from sliding in shoes or blisters.

Find more info on this product here.

Update: I have been using this product for almost two months now and while I don't use it everyday I do love it. I use it mostly when I am wearing heavier make up than my usual. It keeps my eye makeup in place as well as it keep my foundation and my face from becoming an oil slick. I also notice that when I use it, it keeps me from breaking out in pimples and blackheads.

Dressing With a Conscience

I dedicate this to my furry, scaly and feathery friends.

Since one of my very good friends is Vegan, I find myself making a conscience effort in or to be more animal friendly. Since I do love animals of all kinds including dogs, cats, birds and reptiles. I look for clothing, shoes and handbags that do not have animal products in them.

Yes, I can stop buying leather, fur or feathered products easily and that would be fine. But with shoes and certian handbags its not that simple. Say if you were to buy a pair of non-leather shoes, you are thinking this is non-leather so no animal product, right?

Wrong.

Some shoes are held together with glue and some glues are made with animal products like hoofs, bones and cartilage. Now before you think I am going to go into a whole story on how animals are treated in order to get products out of them, I won't. If you want to read more information on that look here.

Now on to some retailers and producers that have Vegan-friendly products.

Lulu's

The online store, Lulu's has a nice selection of Vegan-friendly shoes as well a wonderful selection of clothing.

Urban Expressions
Urban Expressions is a Los Angeles based handbag maker with fashionable styles that are worn by celebrities and featured in magazines. I own two of their bags and I love them. You can find the handbags at Marshall's, T.J. Maxx, DSW,

My Urban Expressions Bella Bowler bag $79

Alternative Outfiters

I have not shopped at Alternative Outfitters myself but my vegan friend has. They have shoes, handbags, clothing, accessories and things like nail polish, cosmetics and beauty supplies that are all 100% Vegan.

Moo Shoes
Moo Shoes is not just shoes as you may think by the name, they have clothing, bags, accessories, and shoes. I have been to their NYC location numerous times and have bought a pair of sneakers from them. If you do live in the NYC area stop in and visit.

Simple Shoes "Satire Sneaker"   $55

While you are there and get hungry stop by Baby Cakes for some vegan sweets. My favorite is the Double Chocolate Crumb Cake.

While I have leather, wool and feather products in my wardrobe I do make an effort not to choose to add more, and I have donated the fur coats that I had inherited to Coats for Cubs program with the Human Society of the United States.

While I am not Vegan myself, I do support my friend and all the others who do go out of their way to keep animals safe from harm. They are much stronger willed than I am.

Today is Meatless Monday by the way.

No Guns

The title of this post came from these kids who were playing in the park next to where I took these shots. They said that they were dragons so "No Guns". Children have they greatest imaginations.

They Make Me Smile, Damnit I Like That.

For those who want to know who I am talking about when I say who took my pictures I am here to de-cloak them. , ooo a Harry Potter reference, Karen will love that.

I am serious, they both work magic when they take my pictures. By magic, I mean they get me to smile. There is a huge difference when they are taking my pictures and I am taking the pictures of myself.

I say its always great when you have someone to take your pictures, you have someone to interact with and they tell you when your shirt came unbuttoned or a hair is in the face.

So without further ado my two photographers:

David
David takes most of my pictures, simply because he lives about a block away from where I live. I really like when he takes my pictures because he keeps me amused from behind the camera. He can't stand the grabbing of the forearm shot that is popular with some of us bloggers. David has his own blog What's All the Rave where he writes about sports, mostly baseball (NY Mets), hockey (NY Rangers), Football (NY Jets) and NASCAR.

Karen and her dimples
I hope she doesn't kill me for this photo but it is perfect. Karen is a Vegan, a Yankee fan, avid reader, Harry Potter and Steven King fan, and a cat lover. When she is not fostering a homeless cat or looking for Vegan items she and I are hanging out whether for going to Yankee games, shopping, the opera or getting vegan treats at  BabyCakes.

These two are the best friends that a girl can have. I have been friends with them for over 10 years and I plan to keep them for the rest of my life.

Showtime

This weeks nail polish is "Showtime"

pay no attention to my horrible cuticles.
When I wore this color this week I got a lot of compliments on it. Its a great everyday color, a mix of purple and grey guaranteed to compliment any outfit. I picked this color up last Friday at my local CVS for about $3.50.

Striped Skirt Remix

Last month I bought a skirt that I felt that I had to have. I just knew it could be versitile enough to fit in my wardrobe. Since I don't get to wear skirts very often, I figured I need to make this one count.

Forever 21 angled stripes skirt w/ belt
The angled stripes are a universally flattering print to body shapes and the black and white color is great base for other colors to combine with.

my favorite one

See more on how I remixed this skirt after the jump.

A Sad Day in Hollywood

Elizabeth Taylor passed away today, she was 79 years young.

Elizabeth Taylor February 27, 1932 - March 23, 2011

Famous for her movie roles such as Cleopatra and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and many others. She won two Oscars and many other prestigious awards. She is also known for her charity work especially with HIV and AIDS.

She will be missed.

This Needs to Be in My Closet Now!

Don't mind me as a drool for a bit.

But I love these Christian Louboutin “Lucifer Bow” Stilettos. But at $995 I will just have to view them from afar. These are my dream shoe, I love the spike studs and the bows, most of all they are black.

I first spotted them on J.Lo today rocking them back in February with a white bandage dress, capelet, white leather gloves (love them too)  and studded bag when she was in NYC. But I didn't know who made them any closer details until today when I spotted them on Shooperwoman.com

A better look at the dress, capelet, bag and gloves. J. Lo always looks stunningly chic, I love the whole look.

I was thinking though maybe these shoes can be recreated with some supplies from M&J Trimming. Or maybe some retailer will recreate them some how.

Until then I'll be drooling in my corner.

A Voice Once Stentorian is Now Again Meek and Muffled

Blog title from Fiona Apple's Oh Well ... it just fit my feelings so perfectly.

I wont deny it, I'm a bit moody / depressed, I can put my finger on it but I can't really put my finger on it. It could be the weather (rain/snow on the first full day of spring) or a conversation I had the other day, who knows. But everyone has those days, so for now I wear blue.

Charlotte Russe Cardi/ H&M Tee and Belt/ F21 Maxi Skirt/ Unknown Wool Beret/ Tokidoki Chooka Rainboots/My  Mom's Necklace Bought in Chile

I'm sorry to say but this will be the last time I will be wearing these boots, they don't fit my feet anymore and they are so uncomfortable. I don't feel like my feet have grown but it seems that these boots are to narrow to be worth keeping. And I love them to death, but I have to give them away.

Fortunatly today its sunny but cool, and tomorrow its supposed to snow with accumulation. This weather does not make this girl happy.

I am dying for spring.

It just seems that my fate for now is to be moody.

Best of MY 30x30

Recently I participated in a 30x30 wardrobe remix, for those who don't know what it was, it was taking 30 items from your wardrobe and remixing those items in 30 days. I actually did 30 remixes in 37 days with 28 pieces of my wardrobe. I did have to skip a few days due to work and weather constraints. This winter we were just sacked with major snowfalls and drenching rain.

I have picked my favorite days, I chose them based on how the days were and not just the outfit that i was wearing. These are in no particular order.

I had fun and I wanted to cry sometimes but it was all worth it. Check out my thoughts on it here.

If you are interested in participating in the next remix challenge or want more info click here or the link below.
