Women's Mafia and Arroyo Salon

This past Friday I braved two non-air conditioned trains and another broiling day to attend the Women’s Mafia Fashionable Fridays: Beauty & Style Gifting Event at Arroyo Salon.  My fellow bloggers and I were made over with hair and makeup artists from the Arroyo Salon some of us even got eyelash extensions from Lora Condon.

During the event many of us took advantage of the Pop-up Studio that was there and took some fun pictures we we also gifted  a choice of jewelry to take home from the up and coming designer J. Rudy Lewis.

Lora Condon wasn't there just to give us some eyelashes, she also gave a reading from her new book Spa Wars: The Ugly Truth About the Beauty Industry. She also signed copies personally to us.
She had some funny stories to tell.

Her shoes were on fire!

Bob Mackie Art Event

This past Wednesday I was invited to The Art of Bob Mackie event here in NYC. I actually braved the 104 degree weather and went in to the city for the event. I was so excited to be invited that I couldn't stop telling everyone that I was going. Growing up knowing the designs of Bob Mackie most famously the dresses that Cher wore to the Oscars and the Bob Mackie Barbie dolls that a few friends had.

Bob Mackie has designed costumes for theater productions, Cher and her Vegas shoes at the Ceaser's Palace in 2008, the Carol Burnette Show, to the singer Pink's costume for her Fun House tour. He has received Emmy awards for his costume work as well as Oscar nominations. He continues his work still designing clothes working with QVC and now since 1998 has started a successful home furnishing division.

To those of us who were invited to the event we introduced to the prints that will be sold through his website and through his facebook fan page page. The prints included pieces like the Pink Showgirls, Clowns, Broadway's Gypsy, Broadway's Comedy "Moon Over Buffalo", Carmen and her Troupe, the Las Vegas Production "Halleluja Hollywood", Belle of the Ball, Puttin on the Ritz, Urban Safari, Cocktail Hour, Kitty Kat Club ( cat prints based on his own cats), and the Roaring Twenties.  We also got to choose  a 14x17 piece of our liking that will be fully framed.

Sorry for the crappy pic, forgot my camera and this hallway was nothing but gold and bronze lighting. The glowing thing is my bag that has a reflective strip on it.

What’s in My Bag – Visual FBFF

This week for FBFF is a visual post from the idea of  Marie-Eve of A Pretty Nest. Normally we have questions that we answer every Friday but today it is all in pictures.

I have been putting off doing a what's in my bag for a while for the main fact is that I just been putting  it off. Well it is no time like the present time to do a post especially since I am putting off outfit posts for a while.

For the past 3 weeks I have been carrying this Steve Madden bag that I picked up earlier this month at T.J. Max for $20 on clearance. While this is my everyday bag that I've been using for work and weekends, I have changed into smaller bags for a few events and nights out with friends. I love that this bag is sectioned in to three parts with the middle having a zipper to secure the important stuff like my wallet and wire bag. The other compartments I have been using to carry a water bottle ( a must in the Heartpocalypse NYC  has been getting) and keys.

The Essentials:
Wallet that I picked up at the Blogger's Closet Raid
Hairbrush/mirror
Sunglasses by Rayban
Gum
Minty Lip gloss by e.l.f "Nashville"
Hand sanitizer from Bath and Bodyworks " Aqua Blossom"
Body spray by Victoria Secret's Pink " Sweet & Flirty"
3 sets of keys: Car, Home and work
Flip cam
Blog business cards by Moo Cards

Digging Deeper:
Metrocard - I have the Easy Pay Express Pay Per Ride
Essie Nailpolish
( for nail growth and protection)
Rayban Avators
iPod charge wire and headphones
Scandisk USB card adapter - I highly recommend this item
(great for computers that don't have SD readers)
nail files (from a vendor that sells oil products)

Items Not Seen:
Tissues ( I always carry them but I ran out today)
iPhone (used it to take pictures)
Random lipsticks that I never use
Kindle (took it out yesterday to charge)
Receipts ( I haven't got any today yet, but
I clean my purse everyday of them)
Hair Ties and bobby pins (using them in my hair now)
Bottle of water (didn't need one at work)
A pen - forgot all about it for the pictures.

So there you have it a little peek into my bag. I keep my bag organized and clean. I never have little gum wrappers, papers or change rolling around at the bottom of my bag <---its a pet peeve of mine.

Work Boots

I cannot put this off any longer, I am in need of some lower cut black boots that I can wear to work with out worrying about ruining and that I can wear with my work wardrobe. I have been searching since the start of last winter to replace a pair that got thrown away by accident,  but I put it off since I was wearing my timberland or my knee high boots both of which are fine for cold winter days but summer is here and wearing tall boots and jeans is just way to hot on 90 degree days.

While I usually wear my converse sneakers or a pair of running sneakers, they aren't quite smart for walking out in the yard. Remember that I work for a concrete producer and we have a dirt, gravel filled yard and mechanic's garage full of grease and oil slicks that I have to walk through. And when I have to do major yard walking I have my Timberland's under my desk to change into. But I figured if I get a pair of black boots with a decent grip on the bottom I could wear them to work and not have to worry about them getting damaged or dirty. Plus if I get them in black leather they will go with everything and wipe clean if needed. But the kicker is that I don't want to spend too much or even get real leather for the fact that if they get damaged I wont feel that I wasted money.

So today I took a look on Endless.com and put a query in for black flat ankle boots and these are the two options I narrowed my choices to, they are priced about right and I love the style on both.
Dolce Vita Women's Barry Ankle Boot  $90.34 at endless.com

I really like this boot, but only if I was using them for normal circumstances.
Madden Girl Women's Zylow Lace-Up Boot  $59.95 at endless.com
This is the boot I ended up choosing because the price is right and they aren't real leather so I wont feel bad when they are full of sand, oil and concrete dust. Plus they are animal friendly.

I can't wait to get them next week and wear them to work so I can put my dirty old converse's to rest.

Sugar High

White tee - Olive & Oak via TJ Maxx
Yellow shorts, aviators, floral espadrille wedges (10 years old) - Target
Brown tote bag - Steve Madden via TJ Maxx

I am only posting this outfit today because I'm actually feeling good for the first time in a while. While I'm still having body issues I did actually like my outfit that I picked for a movie outing with my friend Karen.

I was lucky enough to get free passes to see a special screening of Friends With Benefits courtesy of Popsugar. I also won a gift bag from them while I was there, so between that and the movie being great, I was pretty stoked.

I'll Be Back

I just wanna say before people start to wonder if I gave up on my blog or not, that I haven't. I just won't be posting any outfit posts for a while. Why? Well because I just have been to critical about my body image and how I feel about myself lately. I remember when it used to be easy to take outfit photos and to choose a few for a blog post. Now I just am way to picky and kinda feeling sensitive to my body shape.

I know medically it isn't my fault, I am still dealing with an issue that I had major surgery for last summer, but still. I am surrounded by other bloggers who are thin, tall and just naturally take great pictures <---- I am far from it. While I never was one to compare myself to others knowing that I am unique and its not fair to myself, but I am finding myself finally falling for that. I used to love my legs, being muscular and all but now I am really hating them. I hate that I can't fit my 17in calves in to many tall boots I want or that they look like wooden clubs in heels. Don't even let me get started on my boobs, they never fit in anything I want to wear. They always make cleavage even when I don't even try.

Maybe its all a phase but right now I'm just not feeling it. I do have a few events I am going to in the next few months so I will be blogging about those.  But as far as a direct outfit post, I am putting that off for a while. I do though plan to have a few posts like a "What's in my handbag", "My Shoes", or a "Postage Stamp Closet Organization".

So stay tuned because in the words of Arnold in the Terminator

"I'll be back!"

Like a Lady

Back a few months ago in April I went down to NC to visit my Mom for a week. I also raided my moms closet for a few items to put into my own wardrobe. See my mom has been thrifting since I was a baby and she has accumulated somethings that I really love and I was able to convince her to part with. But there were somethings I did leave behind and hopefully she will part with later.

The following outfit is all from my Mom's Closet. I did thought manage to take the skirt, I was going to take the blouse but it wasn't quite fitting the girls right.  But I really loved the shoes which were a bit to small and the velvet green fasinator hat that I may have my Mom send me later, and the sweater I have something similar so I'm not to worried about that.

The painting by the way is one of my Moms, she is so talented. My Mom is the Jack of all trades when it comes to working with her hands from gardening ( you can see in the background her garden), her art, her jewelry, knitting, sewing, and cooking. I am so glad that it didn't skip a generation and I am able to do all that too.

.

Its creepy how this photo turned out, when I see it, I see my mom. The gestures are the same as my moms.

My Mom and I! Notice the exact stance. My Mom is tiny by the way.
